Long distance open ocean paddling has its own set of hazzards, that we don't often think of.

The long distance paddler (Ed Gillet) that I talked to, had a fear of being hit in the head by a flying fish, and being knocked out or worse.

Before Ed's long distance open ocean paddle to Hawaii, he had just got married. His wife was afraid for him and made him put a satelite transponder in his kayak.

She wanted a daily track recorded of his voyage, but Ed said what if that transponder stops working, everyone will think the worst,,, that I am dead.

Mid voyage that transponder did stop working,,, but not before it recorded that Ed had turned back and a few days later it stoped.

His new wife did think the worst and grieved.

The transponder was not able to record that Ed turned around again and continued on with his voyage.
