2010 Singapore River Regatta (SRR)
« on: June 28, 2010, 09:34 »
The SRR has been moved to OCTOBER 30th (Sat) & OCTOBER 31st (Sun).

This is because the original dates (Nov 20th-21st) coincided with the Asian Games. As our N-Teams have qualified to the Asian Games, The SDBA need the month of November to cater to any Final or last minute preparations.

Besides, most of the SDBA hierarchy will be travelling to Guangzhou to support the N-Team during this period. As the Asian Games is the biggest international stage for d-boat, SDBA is naturally excited about the entire affair.

Furthermore, the new October dates were the only available dates that the co-organizers and authorities can compromise on.

So people, please take note and adapt accordingly.

Cool, the Thanksgiving Challenge (if you've done it, you know it!) is now moved to Nov 20th. :)

A distant thought;

I believe with the Marina Bay fully opened by then. SDBA could possibly generate more publicity/hype by holding the SRR in Marina Bay area between MBS and Fullerton Bay Hotel (the former Clifford Pier). I'm sure water conditions are fairier there and there could be an outdoor stage / carnival atmosphere to drum up more interest for the event.

So you want River Regatta 2010 to be like the Singapore Dragon Boat Festival pre-2005?  Back to the Future.  The point of the River Regatta is to, um, have it in the Singapore River right?

But I get what you are saying.  SDBA needs to bring the SDBF back to Marina Bay and make a festival and cultural event out of it like it used to be.  Bedok sucks bad.  Really bad.

Pre 2005, the Barrage was not built and Marina Bay area was open to ferries travelling between the Southern Islands. The water there is now calm enough for a novice K1 paddler.

Bringing it to Marina Bay can only be good for the sport as it can be viewed by more spectators and might even bring in big sponsors from around the area.

All I can say now is, fret not - there are plans to organize a d-boat race in the waters of Marina Bay. In fact, there are even plans to resurrect the night dragon boat race in Singapore River. The night races were very popular in the mid-90s but they were very expensive to run. Just stay tuned.

Yes, those are the first few races which i competed and remembered fondly. Very Nice if we can bring what SRR used to be. :)

just a random question. The timings of the races are timed by human. Which will therefore lead to human error. And since regatta is such a short race and there are ought to be boats that will come in side by side. Human error will therefore cost one to lose their position. Is there any other ways to improve this problem?

just a harmless thought :) &, pardon my english

The scoring system used here (and many other places) as I've seen it is a hi-res video monitor aimed at the finish line from an elevated platform with a white line digitally drawn from one finish buoy to the other.  The first pixel of the dragon's nose to appear on the finish side of the white digital line line is the winner, with corresponding time.  I have seen an exact tie listed on the board once I think, but it wasn't in a final.

I do wonder what would happen in the case of a final and exact tie.  It must be covered in IDBF rules somewhere?

They would have to re-race i guess
