Singapore River Regatta 2008
« on: October 23, 2008, 23:39 »
Hi all,
Just like to have your opinions on who might be the contenders for 2008 regatta that is about 4 weeks away. I think this may be the most exciting regatta yet considering the many changes that the many top teams have gone through. They always say that regatta is anybody's race or is it? Do raise your opinions if you do have any. Cheers..

I cannot wait for Regatta to come. So looking forward to it. Personally, it is a much more bigger race than SDBF. Not exactly in terms of the quality but the atmosphere, the race site, the starting point under the bridge, steererss holding onto the buoy, lanes seemingly so close to each other, and teams snatching your medals under your nose at the last charge. Euphoric.

because it's just 300meters, its considered a sprint race. and yeah, this is really anybody's race.

and i agree i feel this race is much more bigger, much more fun, much more exciting than SDBF simply because of the HUGE number of participants, the venue, the crowds, supporters, bypassers, environments, so many things.

and when the boats are so close to each other, there'll be plenty of drama too. crashes are always fun to watch hahahaha, but hopefully im not the one getting crashed out of the race. normally, strong teams will perform well, but then again, not-so-strong teams might just spring a surprise or two, because this race is just so close!

With the completion of the dam, hope they can control the tidal flow of the river during the race.
Last year finals, the current was horrible, no disrespect to any team, but alot of hot favourites in "lane 3"(being fastest qualifer) during the finals did not win. In fact, most of them came in 3rd with 1st from lane1, 2nd from lane2.

the news paper recently talked about this, and they mentioned that there will not be any "low or high tides" in the singapore river. the barrage, though, is designed to also allow excess water from the kallang "reservoir" to flow out into the open sea if necessary, thus there might still be "flows".

in fact,  during all the final expect for inter-corp (  it went the other way, HP got first, lane 1 last ) all the team in lane 1 came in first!!

Since the new barrack is completed, and the new garden beside it soon,  why not have river-regatta there??

Dun have to care abt those idiot river-taxi anymore..

they won't hold it there because of one simple fact.
3 words sums it all up.
SINGAPORE RIVER REGATTA.
so it's a river race AT the Singapore River.
