Chinese Rowing Heroine Zhang Xiuyun
« on: August 11, 2008, 14:12 »

Can a 32 year old mother with cogenital heart problems compete in the Olympics? Can you?

Hubei-born Chinese athlete Zhang Xiuyun can. Her condition was so severe that she pulled out of the previous 2 Olympics due to her health problem, and her doctor warned of the possibility of sudden death.

However she performed marvellously and came in first in the women's single scull heats event in the time of 7:38:16, and kick-started China's bid for a golden harvest in the rowing arena.
It is all just in the mind.

I saw her heats. She was way ahead of the other boats. I was sort of worried she might end up like Kolonics. RIP Kolonics.
